Cocopeat is a fantastic base for terrace and grow-bag gardening — it holds moisture well and is free of weed seeds — but used on its own it lacks nutrients and can stay too wet. For vegetables in grow bags, we recommend a 60-30-10 blend: 60% washed, low-EC cocopeat, 30% well-rotted compost or vermicompost, and 10% perlite or coarse river sand for drainage.
Always soak dry cocopeat blocks fully and fluff them before mixing. Top-dress with a balanced NPK or organic feed every few weeks once plants are established. This mix works well for tomatoes, brinjal, chillies and leafy greens in Kolkata's climate.
